Impii Hora, Asinhell's debut, on a limited edition red and black splatter vinyl. Pressed for the official Asinhell store only.
Volbeat has kept Michael Poulsen busy for more than two decades: vocalist and guitarist, eight full-length records, millions of albums moved, stadiums filled across the globe. Death metal came first, though. He formed Dominus before Volbeat and put out four fast, brutal albums with them in the mid '90s.
Songs for Volbeat's 2021 album, Servant of the Mind, were taking shape when a batch of death metal riffs piled up on Poulsen's hard drive. He saved them. After the Volbeat record wrapped, the rusty gates to Armageddon swung back open and Asinhell took form. Impii Hora means Ungodly Hour in Latin, and the record nods to the old-school groups Poulsen keeps coming back to.
Crushing riffs anchor the songs; strong guitar hooks and shout-along refrains cut through them. Poulsen sings in Volbeat and sang for Dominus, yet he had no interest in fronting Asinhell himself. March 2022 brought a phone call to old friend Marc Grewe, ex-Morgoth and Insidious Disease, who said yes. For drums, Poulsen ran through friends in established bands before asking Morten Toft Hansen of Raunchy. Morten plays like a fiend possessed. His six-year-old daughter and Poulsen's are good friends too, and his place is ten minutes away.
