Gary Clark Jr.'s fourth studio album, JPEG RAW, lands here as a Spotify Fans First exclusive on white vinyl across two LPs.
It plays like a wide, restless statement rather than a set of singles.
Blues roots and guitar work still sit at the centre, yet the record pushes outward. Hip-hop samples, nods to Thelonious Monk and Sonny Boy Williamson, and touches of African and world music run alongside jazz, rock, R&B and rap — ground he's covered before, now pulled tighter together.
Vocals carry real weight too. Clark's lyrics stay pointed and personal, with the occasional rap or spoken-word passage delivered in his own voice. Beats drive the verses before the choruses open up with power chords and fuzz riffs, a groove-heavy psychedelic edge holding the whole thing together.
Standouts include "Maktub", "JPEG RAW", "This Is Who We Are", "Hyperwave" and the ten-minute "Habits". The Stevie Wonder duet "What About The Children" was co-written with him, and it lands like something that could have sat on Innervisions — fuzzed riff and hip-hop pocket included.
Rolling Stone once called him The Chosen One. Two white LPs give you room to hear why.
