The Goo Goo Dolls return with Chaos in Bloom, out August 12th, 2022 on Warner Records. It marks the first album of their career produced by frontman John Rzeznik, and it finds the band still evolving after nearly four decades together.
Ten tracks make up the record, packed with biting sarcasm, stadium-ready choruses and the spear-sharp songwriting that turned the group into one of the most influential alternative rock acts around. Several songs grew out of the isolation of the pandemic, when the small things of daily life started to feel louder. "Chaos in Bloom reminded us how special this whole thing is and to cherish the relationships that we have together," Rzeznik says of the album. "Where we've been, and where we're going."
Bassist and songwriter Robby Takac adds his own angle: "I've been trying to have a relationship with the bigger picture, and refining happiness and what it means from that perspective." Tracks swing between personal reflection and commentary on the state of the world, hunting for optimism while pushing toward a more empathetic world.
Recording took place at Dreamland Studios just outside Woodstock, New York. Remote and steeped in historic rock music roots, the setting helped the pair clear the noise and cut a record with a true live quality, captured by blending vintage instruments and gear with new-era recording techniques.
