Quiara Alegría Hudes won a Tony and a Pulitzer for her writing (Water by the Spoonful, In the Heights), and here she took on book and lyrics for MISS YOU LIKE HELL. Erin McKeown, the genre-breaking singer-songwriter, wrote the music and pitched in on lyrics too. The show opened at the Public Theater.
Daphne Rubin-Vega, twice a Tony nominee, plays Beatriz: a flawed mom to 16-year-old Olivia, and an undocumented immigrant on the verge of deportation. Mother and daughter have spent years apart. Then they get in a car and cross state lines, meeting Americans of different backgrounds, shared dreams and complicated truths.
