Songs from the late Jonathan Larson — the writer of Rent and tick, tick… BOOM! — fill The Jonathan Larson Project, available now for streaming and download. Nick Blaemire, Lauren Marcus, Andy Mientus, Krysta Rodriguez and George Salazar are part of the cast.
This Special CD package is a limited edition, collectible 40-page hardbound book. It gathers previously unreleased artist archival materials: photos and images of original lyric and music sheets, scripts, notebook pages and much more. Song lyrics and song annotations sit alongside production and recording studio photos, plus liner notes from director Jennifer Ashley Tepper, who conceived the project, and Jonathan Larson Grant-winning writer Joe Iconis.
A concert at Feinstein’s/54 Below came first, directed and conceived by Jennifer Ashley Tepper (Be More Chill), with music supervision, orchestrations and arrangements by Charlie Rosen (Be More Chill, Prince of Broadway, Honeymoon in Vegas, Charlie Rosen’s Broadway Big Band). The five-piece band features musical director Natalie Tenenbaum, Charlie Rosen, Cody Owen Stine, Megan Talay and Marques Walls, and Danielle Gimbal as copyist. Jennifer Ashley Tepper, Charlie Rosen and Kurt Deutsch produced the album.
Larson died tragically at 35, before seeing the worldwide acclaim his work would receive. Tony Awards and the Pulitzer Prize followed posthumously, and his songs have been treasured and performed in 25 languages, from Mexico to Japan to Italy, from summer camps to the silver screen to Broadway. DC Metro Theater Arts hailed the Feinstein’s/54 Below premiere as “a treasure trove of unperformed, unrecorded, and unheard material,” while Asbury Park Press called it “One of the Top 10 Broadway special events of 2018.” TheaterMania.com wrote, “this show seems destined for a future life onstage and on disc. His songs simply deserve to be heard.”
